A modern Scandinavian-inspired riff on the American farmhouse, perched on a cliff in the Hollywood Hills with sweeping views of Los Angeles. The three parallel volumes are linked together with dark metal gabled roofs, based on the repetitive construction of Louis Kahn’s Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas.
Simple elements such as timeless wood, concrete, and stone are used to define the shape of the three volumes, each houses different living spaces. The nearly 11,000 square foot home boasts 6-bedrooms and 9-bathrooms, towering walls of glass and thirty-foot ceilings, a zero-edge infinity pool, gym, and home theater, this collection of programming is further complemented by sweeping views of the city’s downtown together with the ocean beyond.
The interior feature contemporary furnishings by Minotti Los Angeles and MASS Beverly. The tailor-made selections were customized to reflect the clean and serene Danish-modern environment created by Standard Architecture. The interior spaces are quite wide-open, so furniture was used to designate different areas for varying purposes, from foyer, which organically shaped low tables from Henge, a reception lounge and a formal living area, all of which were furnished in clean, quiet colors and comforting materials. A handful of vintage pieces and modern accessories were selected to complement the natural woods used throughout the home and low profile designs highlight the soaring ceilings. The double-level outdoor terraces feature pieces by Minotti and Expormim in cool grey tones to allow the natural hillside to sing. Overall, the goal was to create a tranquil retreat outfitted with comfortable classics and icons of modern luxury.
