Designed as a home for a growing family, Anders Lasater Architects transformed this once dark and dreary 1950s rancher into a light filled, contemporary California farm house.
Working closely with the owners, the architects set out to create a luminous collection of thoughtfully organized volumes that form a backdrop for their daily family life, while embracing the sunlight and view beyond.
Open, luminous, and organized for easy living, the home embraces family and guest alike, offering a variety of spatial moments and that make for a rich living experience.
Intimate moments are found within and without the house where a smaller, more personal scale is celebrated. The sitting area in the great room, and the steps of the entry courtyard are just a few of these special moments that bring detail and texture within reach of the family.
Giving the house some height is always a challenge in Laguna, but the firm were able to work within the code restrictions to heighten the internal volume and make it feel like a new home, while protecting neighbors views.
